These last weeks of David Letterman’s shows – and yes, we’re down to that, because the final Late Show with David Letterman is now less than a month away – are increasingly rewarding to watch, with guests saying their proper farewells, after which baseball-card-style graphics display a photo of that guest’s first TV appearance with Dave. Vintage clips, especially of classic field pieces with Letterman and his crew out on the streets, also are doled out almost nightl

This 1990 movie, based on a Stephen King story and directed by Rob Reiner, gave King another mainstream movie hit – and made a star of Kathy Bates, as the fan of a novelist (James Caan)  who ends up holding him captive after finding him in a car accident. Tonight’s Louie contains a scene that’s absolutely brilliant: Louie (Louis C.K.) asks a young kitchenware store employee (played by Clara Wong) to open a locked case and show him some expensive cookware. She demurs, because she’s about to close, which launches Louie into a mild tirade about the new generation. But instead of taking it, she offers a sizzling rebuttal – one which is so unexpected, and funny, it shows why Louie is such a great TV comedy. And the episode has

Jerry Van Dyke has appeared many times on this series as Tag, the father of Patricia Heaton’s Frankie. But tonight, he shows up with a familiar special guest star in tow: His brother Dick Van Dyke, playing Tag’s long-estranged sibling. The two real-life comedy brothers first shared TV time when Jerry guest starred on his older brother’s The Dick Van Dyke Show back in the Sixties – and five decades later, little brother is returning the favor by bringing big brother to The
