Anthony Quinn is being saluted all night, and every Wednesday this month, on TCM – but you have to wait until after midnight to see him as a co-star in David Lean’s magnificent 1962 biographical epic, Lawrence of Arabia. Peter O’Toole stars.

SERIES PREMIERE: Paul Feig, creator of Freaks and Geeks, wrote the original pilot script for this new Yahoo series about a decade ago, for NBC. They never produced it, but Feig – whose TV habits as a kid included not only Lost in Space, but even such ultra-obscure space-age comedies as Quark – always had a soft spot for his sci-fi comedy idea, and recently revived and rewrote it for Yahoo. And Yahoo: The entire Season 1 is available now by finding and watching Yahoo Screen. The stars

TCM has been my default channel almost since the day of its launch – the place I keep my TV tuned when it’s at rest, or when I’m restless. For two decades, I’ve enjoyed the comfort of watching TCM host Robert Osborne introduce old movies and interview veteran actors and directors – and tonight, Osborne moves into the center spotlight seat, and deservedly so, for this one-hour tribute. And he didn’t even know it was coming: Osborne was ambushed, in true classic

On a night devoted to this network’s decades-long host, Robert Osborne, a tribute to the veteran face of TCM is followed by a collection of Osborne’s favorite movies – starting with this 1959 Alfred Hitchcock masterwork, starring Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint.

Before she hosted Saturday Night Live last weekend, and before she broke out as the brash Cookie on Empire, Taraji P. Henson played detective Carter on this CBS series – until her character was killed off. But now that Henson is a big star, she’s returning to Person of Interest – but only for this episode, which finds a way to showcase her, in flashback.

SERIES FINALE: This is easily the biggest TV event of the night. How will Graham Yost’s fabulous exploration of Elmore Leonard’s backwoods Kentucky universe end tonight? I have no idea – but if the central troika of Raylan, Boyd and Ava all get out of there alive, I’ll be quite surprised. Then again, this series has surprised me consistently, by defying expectaions and delivering something even better, from the start.

The usual “big” shows – AMC’s Mad Men, CBS’s The Good Wife, Netflix’s House of Cards, FX’s Justified, to name a deserving few -- have lately been getting most of the attention. But I’d like to throw some renewed support here to BBC America’s Broadchurch...

MINISERIES PREMIERE: Part 1 of 3. Acorn TV is importing and presenting this three-part British miniseries, starring David Morrissey as a Manchester cabbie turned getaway driver, over as many weeks. You can watch the opening installment on Acorn’s streaming service beginning any time today, with Part 2 arriving next Monday, and the concluding installment a week after that. For Walking Dead fans who loved to hate Morrissey as the Governor, watching this 2014 miniseries may be interesting, an

Purely by coincidence, the scheduling tonight of this 2014 Angelina Jolie movie provides a fascinating opportunity to flip between a new movie and its original inspiration. That’s because, at 8 ET tonight, The Disney Channel televises Disney’s original 1959 take on the Maleficent story, its animated Sleeping Beauty movie…

…Once this 1959 Disney animated film begins, have some fun switching your channels between this one and the Starz! channel, which will be partway through presenting Angelina Jolie in the title role as the embodiment of Maleficent. Compare and contrast. Extra points if you switch between the same scene in both movies.
