SEASON PREMIERE: Rachel Bloom’s Rebecca Bunch went through a season of highs and lows last year (only part of which was medically induced), and finds herself starting Season 4 in prison. Which, since this is a series that breaks into all-out musical production numbers at times, is the perfect excuse for Rebecca to sing her version of “The Cell Block Tango” from Chicago.

SERIES RETURN: A new season of this very welcome, subjective dive into some of William Shakespeare’s plays returns tonight with a doubleheader: Much Ado about Nothing as discussed by Helen Hunt, and The Merchant of Venice, dissected by F. Some weeks – and this is one of them – you don’t need to know the guests. You just need to know that Maher will be there, with someone, to react to the week’s events.

The worlds of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon continue to intersect, or at least inspire one another. In tonight’s new Big Bang episode, Jerry O’Connell returns, once again playing the adult Georgie, who is seen as Sheldon’s brother on Young Sheldon.

SEASON PREMIERE: It’s hard to believe, but this series is beginning Season 14 tonight – making it one of the longest-running current dramas on the broadcast network schedules, and certainly the most tenured show about, as well as titled, the Supernatural. And tonight, as the story picks up, one hero is possessed by a devil. Maybe even the devil…

This sitcom really is delightful, in the way it keeps painting over its own landscapes, and rewriting its own rules, directions, and even its characters. Ted Danson as Michael knows what’s happening, and sometimes his assistant Janet (D’Arcy Carden) does, too – but all the humans he was trying to torture, and now is trying to protect, remain in the dark. Even when they’re being led towards the light. Or, allegorically, away from the light.

Murphy (Candice Bergen) has returned to the workplace in a new era – not only for TV news, but for the ways men and women are expected to be treated in the workplace. In tonight’s episode, Murphy attends a sexual harassment seminar at work – which triggers not only some new punch lines, but some old memories.

MOVIE PREMIERE: Paul Greengrass directs this new feature film, which premieres today on Netflix, and also premieres in a couple of movie theaters nationwide. It concerns a mass shooting and its impact, but for once, the focus is not on one of the maddeningly plentiful gun tragedies in the United States. Instead, this film examines the events of, and the ensuing reactions to, the 2011 mass shooting at a youth camp near Oslo in Norway. The shooting claimed 77 deaths, and the film, 22 July, assesse
