SEASON FINALE: Tonight, the winner is announced. And that’s about as much enthusiasm as I can generate.

Dean Martin is the celebrity being saluted by TCM on Wednesdays this month – and tonight’s lineup of movies leads off with one of his films that’s been famously and successfully remade: 1960’s Ocean’s Eleven, whose co-stars include Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Angie Dickinson, Shirley MacLaine, Joey Bishop, and Peter Lawford. In other words, a veritable pack of rats, in the bad-boy Rat Pack sense, male and female.

Last week’s season premiere set the scene, but it was a very strange scene, so devoid of logic and reason that any sense of disbelief, or appetite for a sense of reality, should be checked at the door. And tonight should clarify, at least a bit, what this show’s creators are up to this season with its post-apocalyptic isolationist fantasy. Joan Collins stars.

SNEAK PREVIEW: Monday night, precisely one NBC series won an Emmy at that night’s live ceremony: Saturday Night Live, for best sketch or variety series. Tonight, NBC offers a double-scoop sneak preview, after the season finale of America’s Got Talent, of one of its new fall series, I Feel Bad. For the future of broadcast television, so do I. For a full review, see Ed Bark's Uncle Barky's Bytes.

In the opening episode of Sorry For Your Loss, we never learn why Matt Greer (Mamoudou Athie) died at a tragically young age. We only know that he’s gone and that his wife Leigh (Elizabeth Olsen) has watched her own life shatter into a thousand pieces...

SPECIAL PREMIERE: D.L. Hughley, like seemingly every other standup comic in America, gets his own Netflix special. But Hughley is clever enough to do something special with his special, so check it out. This one is partly autobiographical, partly topical – and, at times, intentionally confrontational.

SEASON FINALE: These are the live finals, with the performers who have made it all the way to the end getting one last chance to push to the front of the line. And tomorrow night, on live TV, the winner is announced. I note this for the benefit of those who, unlike myself, care.

One of this month’s special spotlight series on TCM is devoted to “The Black Experience on Film,” and tonight that series presents some early, important works with extremely noteworthy on-screen talent. At 8 p.m. ET, the prime-time salute begins with 1954’s Carmen Jones, a black modernization of the Bizet opera, starring Dorothy Dandridge, pictured with Harry Belafonte, as the sultry Carmen. (Her singing voice was dubbed by opera star Marilyn Horne; decades later, when MT
