The filmed bits and sketches still outshine the ones performed in front of a studio audience, and that’s a ratio that has to be overturned for Maya & Marty to be a true variety show, much less a successful one. So here’s hoping, as we get another first-run episode tonight. In addition, many of the Broadway artists who recorded What the World Needs Now, to help The Center in Orlando, will perform it on the show tonight.

SERIES PREMIERE: The executive producer of this new series on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network is Oprah Winfrey, who’s also one of the supporting stars. It’s a drama about the family behind a megachurch in Memphis, with Keith David as the patriarch and Lynn Whitfield as the tough matriarch, who could give some of the Downton Abbey dowagers a run for their money.

And while they love each other a lot, they also have some very unusual theme parties. Raised by Wolves is streamed on the Acorn website.

Lena Dunham is producer of this new documentary by Jason Benjamin, which profiles a Brooklyn tailor shop, Bindle & Keep, which specializes in custom suits and apparel for transgender and gender-nonconforming clients. It’s a positive story – and an especially well-timed one in the wake of the recent mass shooting in Orlando.

Apparently, CBS is televising this series on both Sunday and Monday nights, offering a next-day repeat – at least for now. But that’s good news, even if it’s temporary, because this gives you a second chance to catch the second episode of BrainDead. And that’s the one that summarizes all of the activity from the premiere episode into a jaunty opening theme song, catching you up to date instantly. Don’t miss it – it’s such a fun, enjoyable recap, it feels
