Happy Halloween. If you want genuinely creepy TV fare to go along with your spooky festivities, this 1991 high-class, Oscar-winning horror classic is the way to go. Especially if you show the movie with specially prepared TV dinners, with fava beans and a nice chianti. Anthony Hopkins, Jodie Foster star.

These are your father’s zombies. Maybe your grandfather’s. But made in 1968, George Romero’s low-budget 1968 movie about the brain-hungry, flesh-seeking undead would inspire the genre for decades, no less than Tod Browning’s 1931 Dracula. Dollar for dollar, it must be one of the most influential horror movies ever made.

The reopening of the Rainbow Room atop Rockefeller Center certainly is cause for celebration, in any event. But this particular event (taped, not live, at least in TV terms) is especially welcome. Michael Feinstein opens his Americana songbook, and opens the door of the Rainbow Room to a handful of selected guests, all of whom fill the place with music, and a very entertained invited audience, for an hour. Among the guests: Christine Ebersole. Among the highlights: Nebraska actress June Squibb s

Tonight’s show is heavy on second-tier celebrities, but ones who are very active in politics: Kal Penn (seen, in photo, with another politically connected guy you might recognize) and Eva Longoria. And with midterm elections around the corner, their perspectives on minority voting turnout and trends may prove quite insightful. Also on the bill: Gen. Wesley Clark and Sen. Angus King.

The city providing the setting and inspiration for tonight’s installment is Nashville. Dave Grohl visits with country legends old and new (represented, respectively, by Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood). There’s a new song – and on the same night, at the same time in real life, the Foo Fighters also are in Nashville, hosting a sold-out, come-in-costume concert at the famed Ryman Auditorium.

Olive Kitteridge...contains itself within a four-hour miniseries -- and is better for it. The miniseries basically spans 25 years, beginning with Olive (Frances McDormand) preparing to end it all before backtracking a quarter-century

Now that baseball is over, it’s time to switch to basketball – at least for tonight, when the game offers enough subtext and drama to warrant a lot of attention. The visiting team is the New York Knicks, and the home team is the Cleveland Cavaliers, marking LeBron James’ return to that club, and city, since he left Cleveland for the Miami Heat. Thomas Wolfe was wrong, at least when it comes to basketball and Akron, Ohio native James. As he proves tonight, you can go home again.

SEASON PREMIERE: Allison Janney won two Emmys this year – one for her dramatic supporting actress work on Showtime’s Masters of Sex, and one for her comedic supporting actress work here. So if you’ve never seen Mom, here’s your chance. It’s back for Season 2 with Janney playing one of the Mom parts on this sitcom. Another: Anna Faris, playing Janney’s daughter.

SEASON PREMIERE: Not a recommendation, just an observation. This is the final season of this sitcom, which has gone on much longer than anyone involved in it dared dream – especially after the controversial departure of Charlie Sheen. Jon Cryer’s co-star, ever since, has been Ashton Kutcher, but this season will be the last lap around the track for both of them. So it’s time to pull out the Halloween costumes – a zombie Elvis for Kutcher, and, for Cryer, a costume that&rs

SEASON PREMIERE: Holmes and Watson are back, but Kitty’s here, too. And if you Sherlock Holmes fans remember a certain Baskerville hound much more than you do a character named Kitty, here’s a fun flashback of sorts. And this Kitty is played by Ophelia Lovibond, who sounds like a character Sir Arthur Conan Doyle might have concocted on his own. Then again, so does the star of PBS’s Sherlock import, Benedict Cumberbatch. Lucy Liu, Jonny Lee Miller stars.
