Mark Twain once wrote, “Man is the only animal that blushes. Or needs to.” So we can rule him out as the smartest animal. Which leaves, among the contenders, apes of various stripes, some damned clever dogs, and the animal that gets my vote, the dolphin. Everyone loves the king of the sea… Check local listings.

The website for ABC’s Nashville enjoys such ancillary offerings as ABC Music Lounge’s documentary behind-the-scenes web series, On the Record, which delves deeper into the show’s songs and songwriters. Tonight, that web series gives birth to an ABC network special of the same name, which also features the series’ first prime-time concert special. Performers include Hayden Panettiere, Clare Bowen and Chris Carmack.

Last week’s show featured a fellow spy who went rogue, and was killed – while Elizabeth (Keri Russell) watched without intervening. Her cold-blooded, pragmatic reaction upset husband operative Phillip (Matthew Rhys), and inserted a new round of tension in the midst of what sounds like a very dangerous mission.

In hopes of determining who can, and can’t, be trusted among the remaining S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, they’re put through their paces by submitting to a lie detector test. It’s a test, though, that’s as sophisticated as only a super-secret government organization can concoct – and that only a very observant agent, played by guest star Patton Oswalt, can administer.

Tonight’s episode has been teased for more than a year – but the title of the episode, “Opening Night,” promises to deliver. Tonight’s the night that Rachel (Lea Michele) makes her Broadway debut, as the star of a remake of “Funny Girl.”  She’s the greatest star, she is by far…

This new episode looks at “Doctors and Nurses,” including Dr. Kildare (pictured), and gives screen time to the most groundbreaking entry in that genre, NBC’s St. Elsewhere. But when one of its cast members, Ed Begley, Jr., gives his series credit for being the first to dramatize complex medical procedures in a realistic way, don’t take his word for it. For starters, there’s that Fifties show starring Richard Boone, Medic, that did for doctors what Dragnet did for co

This is episode two of this excellent new FX series – and if you saw the premiere, all I need to say is that tonight’s second episode is even better. If you haven’t seen the premiere, though, catch up quickly. Fargo is the latest show to add to your required weekly viewing list.

Here’s one to watch: a true start to the late-night passing of the guard, this time at CBS. Among tonight’s guests on this new edition of Late Show, current host David Letterman says hello to future host Stephen Colbert. And I’d stay tuned, afterward, for The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Ferguson will have seen a preview feed of Letterman’s taping just before taping his own Monday night show – and is just unpredictable enough to comment on it, if he’s s

Now that FX has launched its series variation on the Fargo movie, sister network Fox Movie Channel is taking the opportunity to televise the brilliant 1996 original Coen Brothers film. Frances McDormand, at the center of the movie, is picture perfect – and, like William H. Macy, helps to make this a perfect picture.
