Last Friday, I thought TCM had outdone itself by presenting two of my absolute favorite films of the 1970s, The French Connection and Taxi Driver, as a midnight Friday double feature. Tonight, TCM is freaking me out again, by doing a late-night double bill of two more of my favorite dramas from that generation – 1967’s Bonnie and Clyde at 12:45 a.m. ET, followed at 2:45 a.m. ET by 1975’s Dog Day Afternoon. Brilliant direction, and brilliant performances, in both films, led by W

Tonight’s episode is called “The Donation Oscillation.” If you remember, Leonard has offered to donate his sperm to impregnate the wife of Penny’s ex-boyfriend. As that plan comes closer to fruition, so to speak, Penny becomes unexpectedly jealous – and decides to seduce Leonard just before he leaves for his mission of mercy, to weaken the potency of his donation. That’s all the network episode description says, so I don’t know how Penny plans to entice

This short documentary is about the drama students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL – the school-shooting massacre they all survived, and the musical production they staged and sang in its eventual aftermath. I smell a hit. Like American Idol when it started, and like The Voice, it established itself immediately as a competition series that the entire family could watch. And like The Amazing Race, it has a premise that opens us up to other lands and cultures – but does it, in this case, without leaving the studio. Three celebrity judges provide the bulk of the voting, and a “wall” of judges representing different countries provides the rest, while host James Corden presides genially

On Wednesdays, there’s now a very goofy TV double feature in play, simply by changing channels: Watch The World’s Best on CBS, then switch to Fox to watch The Masked Singer. You’ll see more talent on the former – but weirder costumes on the latter. And each week, as The Masked Singer progresses, the potential for an actual celebrity surprise under those masks, and an actual celebrity, increases. Tonight, episode six.

Back in 1975, the name of Francisco Franco was a running-gag punch line by Chevy Chase on the first year of “Weekend Update” on Saturday Night Live. That was the year Franco died – but this PBS documentary shows how he came to, and held on to, power during his lifetime, ruling Spain from 1939 until his death. Check local listings.

Viewers of the ‘70s music show Soul Train never ran out of things at which to poke fun – starting with Don Cornelius’s lapels, which were about a city block wide. But viewers kept viewing because Soul Train also delivered something more important...

SPECIAL PREMIERE: Ray Romano, star of CBS’s Everybody Loves Raymond sitcom, stars in his first standup comedy special since the Nineties – specifically, since 1996, the year Raymond, and Raymond, went on the air on CBS. Right Here, Around the Corner is a double bill of sorts: two different sets, both taped at New York comedy clubs.
