The NBC series This Is Us won only one Emmy this year – Guest Actor in a Drama Series, for Ron Cephas Jones (pictured) – but NBC confidently scheduled this special the night after the prime-time Emmy Awards show anyway. And it’s not a bad idea, or a bad show. Besides, only one series from a broadcast network won any major Emmy last night: NBC’s Saturday Night Live, which won for Outstanding Variety or Sketch Series. And that was it. Best drama, comedy, actors and actresse

A new Fox documentary on the late mass murderer Charles Manson reinforces, perhaps not by choice, the near-certainty that there may be little more to know or say about him...

Michael Che and Colin Jost are the hosts. AMC’s Better Call Saul isn’t eligible this year, because shows eligible for Emmys this year had to have televised episodes in the year-long window from June 1 to May 31. Netflix’s Mindhunter is eligible, but was frustratingly snubbed. So, almost completely, was FX’s Legion, which means that three of my favorite shows of late aren’t getting the notice they deserve. Neither, to be honest, is Showtime’s uneven but still n

Fox recently, finally, unearthed, reshaped and televised its special regarding O.J. Simpson. Tonight, in prime time, another special built around another controversial national celebrity. (See how I avoided lawsuits there?) For a full review, see David Hinckley's All Along the Watchtower.

When he talks about the history and content and artistry of film, Martin Scorsese is about as knowledgeable and enthusiastic as they come. And when he makes film, he’s almost as peerless. Tonight, TCM presents a triple feature of Scorsese’s films from one decade alone, the 1970s. And come on – look at this troika!  At 8 p.m. ET, it’s 1974’s Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. At 10 p.m. ET, it’s the film that put Scorsese on the cinematic map, 1973&rsq

The episode titles for Better Call Saul are not chosen lightly – as anyone knows who watched last week’s episode, in which Bob Odenkirk’s Jimmy took control of some neighborhood punks who had mugged and robbed him by hiring bigger, older, nastier people to string them up by their heels, and hand him a bat. Last week’s episode title? “Pinata.” And this week’s episode, in which Rhea Seehorn’s Kim takes Jimmy to an office party at her new firm, has a

SEASON PREMIERE: It’s back. And for this new season of covering politics on the fly in a first-draft insiders’ view of history, the lineup is tweaked a bit yet again. The Circus began as a troika, with John Heilemann, Mark McKinnon and Mark Halperin. When Halperin was dismissed from both The Circus and MSNBC because of charges of sexual harassment dating back to his days at ABC News, The Circus replaced him with another roving reporter, Alex Wagner. And for this season, The Circus ad

Part 2 of 3. This three-part dramatic import from the U.K. continues, with Anya-Taylor Joy playing Nella Oortman, an 18-year-old woman who arrived in Amsterdam in 1686 to begin an arranged marriage with her rich husband, Johannes (Alex Hassell). Now that she’s there, and has met her intended and his creepy sister, Marin (Romola Garai), the drama intensifies. So does the meaning of the oddly detailed scale model of her home, with which she was gifted upon her arrival. Check local listings.
