I can’t think of a better way for a new retro network to grab my attention with a marathon of The Mary Tyler Moore Show...

For today’s Day 3 of TV coverage of this year’s U.S. Open, action moves entirely to the broadcast network, where Fox begins its live telecast at 2 p.m. ET and doesn’t conclude until 10 p.m. ET. Already, several story lines have developed at the challengingly uneven surfaces at Washington’s Chambers Bay. Tiger Woods had such a bad time here that he didn’t make the cut. Young phenom Jordan Spieth managed, by the end of Day 2, to  claim a share of the early lead.

David Fincher directed this excellent 2014 adaptation of the Gillian Flynn novel, which Flynn herself adapted for the screen. Ben Affleck plays a man whose wife, played by Rosamund Pike, suddenly disappears, quickly leading to him as the prime suspect. But there’s a lot more here than what the story appears to be at first glance. Or even at second glance… Neil Patrick Harris co-stars.

I haven’t seen this secret-project Lifetime movie, but I’ll be watching tonight. It stars Will Ferrell and Kristin Wiig in what sounds like a typical Lifetime movie: They play a rich married couple who invite a young birth mother into their home to present them with a child. But according to the buzz, A Deadly Adoption is supposed to be played for straight, or close to it – not like the duo’s playful IFC miniseries, The Spoils of Babylon, which is spawning an imminent seq

SEASON FINALE: Now that Sarah (and others) have identified “The Original,” what to do with her? And, more important, her blood? Don’t expect tonight’s season finale to end well for everyone – on Orphan Black, they seldom do.

Graham Norton is such an unabashed fan of Seth MacFarlane’s, that whenever the Family Guy creator visits, Graham makes him do a series of vocal “requests.” Last time he had MacFarlane recreate something he did to Liam Neeson: recite Neeson’s famous “I will find you” speech from Taken – but in the voice of Kermit the Frog. This time, the host asks MacFarlane to sing a pair of Cyndi Lauper songs, but in the voices of his Family Guy characters – and w

Day 1 of this year’s U.S. Open, played for the first time at Washington’s rough-and-tumble Chambers Bay, proved to be a lot of fun – for everyone except Tiger Woods, perhaps. Freight trains drowned out all other sounds, the course was challenging, the contours prompted lots of imaginative shots more akin to miniature golf, and the greens were anything but: their color was less that of rich grass and more that of purple lettuce or a bad bruise, with random splotches of browns, p

This movie is 35 years old now. Yes, that’s right. I double-checked the math. But even though it may make you feel old as well as young, watch anyway – because the musical performances captured here, by the actual blues legends surrounding John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, are invaluable. Especially a third of a century later, when so many of these artists are now gone.

J.K. Simmons got an Oscar for his supporting role here, and deserved it. His performance as a domineering music teacher is so scary and ruthless, it makes his neo-Nazi prisoner Schillinger from Oz look like a proverbial pussycat. Wonderful movie – and Miles Teller, as the ambitious drum student, is wonderful, too.

SERIES PREMIERE: Building a sci-fi series around intergalactic bounty hunters is nothing new, and Killjoys, written by Michelle Lovretta, strives to hit the same vibe as Joss Whedon’s Firefly: charming rogue, beautiful and resourceful companion, colorful villains, “Wild West in space” feel. It doesn’t quite gel in the first few episodes, but there are moments – and Hannah John-Kamen, as the bounty hunter named Dutch, makes a strong first impression.
