There are people out there, especially college students and younger, who have yet to experience Woody Allen’s 1977 comedy even once. And with all the comedy, there’s loads of heart, too – as when Diane Keaton, as the title character, sings in her nightclub debut.

Last Sunday at the Peabody Awards, Tina Fey showed up as an unannounced special guest to introduce Amy Schumer, who was being awarded with a Peabody for Inside Amy Schumer. On this repeat from earlier this season, Fey made another surprise appearance – in a tea-party sketch about aging female entertainers, and how they’re perceived by Hollywood and the media. It’s called “Last F***able Day” – and it’s brilliant.

Tonight’s guests will have a lot to say about comedy. David Steinberg talks to Conan O’Brien, who gave up The Tonight Show on principle, and Jeffrey Tambor, whose performance in Transparent not only caps a long and daring career, but proved prescient in terms of the current pop-culture zeitgeist.

SEASON PREMIERE: Steven Bochco’s new series, co-produced with Eric Lodal, begins a new season – which means, as with the likes of True Detective and Fargo, the start of a new season-long story. This one begins with an attack on a particularly vulnerable target: a school bus.

Lily Rabe is good in the series lead here, as an investigator who relates especially well to children. But after watching the reworked series premiere of The Whispers, I wasn’t particularly drawn into watching more. If you reacted differently, here’s episode two, with more kids being ordered to do insidious things by their communal “imaginary playmate.” If you’ve seen a lot of sci-fi, you know the Drill…

Yesterday, American Pharaoh completed a race to destiny by becoming the first Triple Crown winner since 1978. Today, at the 2015 French Open, Novak Djokovic gets a shot at attaining some sports destiny of his own, with a chance to complete his personal Grand Slam by winning, at long last, the French Open. But even after beating his long-time dominant clay-court rival, Rafael Nadal, in this year’s tournament, and taking two days to defeat semifinal opponent Andy Murray, Djokovic still has o

Alan Cumming and Kristin Chenoweth are the hosts of this year’s Tony Awards, which promise excitement on both the drama and musical sides of the fence. With drama, there’s the question of whether Bradley Cooper will win for his starring role in The Elephant Man, or whether another familiar film face, Bill Nighy, will win for Skylight. Actresses, too, are well-represented by screen stars, including Helen Mirren in The Audience, Elisabeth Moss in The Heidi Chronicles, and Carey Mulliga
