Analyzing the whys and wherefores of Roseanne’s mega-ratings splash on ABC Tuesday night apparently is the solemn duty of every TV critic and political pundit in your land/my land...

The sixth and final season of FX’s The Americans could also be called, or at least subtitled, Communist vs. Capitalist. Or more specifically, Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell) vs. her husband, Philip (Matthew Rhys)...

SEASON PREMIERE: Daniel Handler’s Unfortunate Events books, written under his playful pen name of Lemony Snicket, are delightfully dark. And so is this series, which returns for Season 2 picking up just where it left off in the sordid series about three orphaned children. The first two episodes are given to “The Austere Academy,” in which the siblings’ nemesis, Count Olaf, infiltrates their dour new school as a gym teacher with questionably Far East origins. SERIES PREMIERE: Bryan Cranston not only is one of the executive producers of this show – he’s one of the writers, too, and adapted several of this first season’s clips. It’s about three sons whose father dies, but who leaves them a book in which he crams all the wisdom and other stuff he feels they should know. It’s part fantasy, part comedy, and part heartwarming little story – not as good or as dark as Unfortunate Events, but worth a try.

This isn’t a good show at all – and even in an era of reboots, where we just brought Roseanne back, this modern Dynasty doesn’t have much of a purpose. But way back then, the original Dynasty on ABC didn’t have any oomph until Joan Collins joined the cast and shook things up as Blake Carrington’s bitchy ex-wife, Alexis. And in tonight’s new episode, called “Alexis Returns,” that character makes her first appearance in this new series version &ndash

In this new episode, the folks from S.H.I.E.L.D., in trying to escape from the disastrous time loop in which they’ve been stuck, find themselves forced to pair with the unlikeliest of allies: the folks from H.Y.D.R.A. And no, I don’t know what either acronym means. But U.N.C.L.E., that one I still remember…

Tonight’s special is all about the show’s Big Red Chair. If you’ve seen this show, you know how much fun it is. If not, picture this: It’s an end-of-show element in which audience members climb into a Big Red Chair and tell a story to Graham and his guests. If they like it, the guest walks. If not, Graham or a guest pulls a lever, and the guest is flipped.

Tonight’s episode is titled “The Gates Excitation,” and makes room for what, on this show, may be the ultimate guest star: billionaire philanthropist and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. Gates appears as himself, as an uber-geek among geeks, even though his entry into the Big Bang group is made through the most unlikely of connections: Penny.

This series, this season, has gotten noticeably darker, in both of the overall tone and in the amount of blood and violence included on screen. Two weeks in a row now, characters have grabbed heavy hammers and smashed the hand of other characters – and last week, Sofia Falcone (Crystal Reed) ended her reign of terror in Gotham by shooting her former lover, Jim Gordon, several times, before being shot herself by another of Gordon’s exes, Morena Baccarin’s Lee. Gordon survived; S
