Tonight’s episode, titled “Patisserie,” takes on the tough art of French pastry. And the question is, will the remaining bakers be well-prepared as well as well-equipped? Or will some of them find themselves without a pot to patisserie in? Check local listings.

Today’s saluted TCM star is Walter Matthau, whose durable and impressive career is on display with samples from across his celluloid resume. My personal favorites include1963’s Charade at noon ET, 1964’s Fail-Safe at 4 p.m. ET, 1975’s The Sunshine Boys at 6 p.m. ET, and the classic 1968 Neil Simon comedy classic, The Odd Couple, co-starring Jack Lemmon (pictured), at 8 p.m. ET. And wait, as they so often say on TV, that’s not all: at 12:15 a.m. ET comes yet another

Tonight’s installment of this Australian nature series deals with what Aussies call the dry season. Yeah. Try living in New Jersey this summer. Or L.A., New York, Fort Lauderdale, or London, the last four blisteringly hot places I’ve visited lately. Check local listings.

One of the very best movie sequels ever made. This 1974 Francis Ford Coppola follow-up to his 1972 classic The Godfather (which immediately precedes this film today on AMC, by the way) is presented in prime time. Like Better Call Saul, it serves as both prequel (in this case, telling the story of young Vito Corleone, played by Robert De Niro) and sequel (continuing the story of the Don’s youngest son, Al Pacino’s Michael. Watch for great performances not only from those two, but from

This is the second episode of Season 2 of The Sinner, which has established itself as a sort of anthology series. Bill Pullman is still around as Det. Harry Ambrose, returning to his home town to investigate the case of a young boy who may have murdered his parents. But new supporting players have been added for this new season, including one worth getting really excited about: Carrie Coon (pictured), who added so much to both HBO’s The Leftovers and Season 3 of FX’s Fargo.

Tonight at 8 p.m. ET, AMC presents Francis Ford Coppola’s influential, beautifully shot and structured 1972 film adaptation of Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, starring Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone. Tomorrow night at the same time, AMC presents the same filmmaker’s 1974 sequel and prequel, The Godfather: Part II, starring Robert De Niro as a younger Vito. Al Pacino stars in both. Watch both.

August is “Summer Under the Stars” month for TCM, when a different actor is saluted each day of the month with an all-day compilation of his or her work. Today it’s film star Harold Lloyd, whose masterpiece of physical prowess and perfectly timed comedy, 1923’s Safety Last (pictured), is saved for the opening prime-time slot. (Whenever I show the climax of this particular Lloyd classic in my Film Appreciation class at Rowan University, my students invariably start babblin

Tonight in this new documentary, Frontline and ProPublica combine forces to investigate the genesis and development of the forces behind last August’s march by white supremacists and neo-Nazis – and identifies and investigates several of those individuals, tracking their activities before the rally… and in the year since.
