Yesterday’s round was a thrilling affair, with relative newbie Patrick Reed (pictured) retaining his unexpected lead while holding off a bold run by veteran player Rory McIlroy, who wowed the gallery early by shooting an eagle on an early hole. By the time Saturday’s play was over, Reed had shot an eagle of his own, and then another. They’re walking and playing together in today’s final pair, which should make today’s championship round especially dramatic.

SERIES PREMIERE: This one’s a blast. Based on the novels by Luke Jennings, Killing Eve is a tale of mutual obsession – two characters singularly fascinated by murder, and, eventually, by one another. Jodie Comer plays Villanelle, an assassin who’s a sociopath, traveling across Europe to kill for money, and for the thrill of it. And Sandra Oh, from Grey’s Anatomy and Sideways, plays Eve, a deskbound British agent whose insights into this elusive killer land her a promotion

This is the penultimate episode of the season – and the sooner this story line ends about the war between the survival cities, and especially the fate of Negan, the better. I’m still watching, but very few of the characters are doing anything sensible, or even recognizable, this year.

This series, conversely, is on its best run in years – by painting Carrie (Claire Danes) into a terrible corner, personally as well as professionally, and by having Saul (Mandy Patinkin), as usual, having to deal with the incompetence and untrustworthiness of those around him.

Tonight’s third episode is called “La Dolce Vita.” Considering what’s already happened to the Gettys given their “good life” lifestyle, I’m guessing the title is meant more than a little ironically.

Last week, in its second episode, Barry managed to stage a credibly dramatic scene as well as several funny ones, during a torture scene that was almost as uncomfortable as Dustin Hoffman’s dental discomfort in Marathon Man. And yet the comedic scenes land squarely, too, a testament to Bill Hader’s direction as well as his acting. And tonight, the juggling act continues, as Hader’s Barry, a recently retired hit man, is forced to carry out one more murder.

Last week on Last Week, the closing segment about the kiddie court – with preschoolers as judges and lawyers, staged to represent the foolishness of preschoolers asked to act as their own legal representatives in certain immigration court proceedings – was sheer brilliance. Whatever Oliver comes up with this week on Last Week, I’ll be watching. And, most likely, laughing loudly.
